For campers
Why a campground can show sites free but nothing bookable
Search here only offers a campground when at least one site is free for every night you asked for. That is stricter than it sounds and it is deliberate.
Consider a three-night stay. On night one there are six sites free, on night two there are four, on night three there are three. Plenty of availability, and possibly no single site free across all three — the free ones may be different sites each night. Booking that stay would mean moving pitch twice, and no one wants that.
So the calendar on a campground page shows how many sites are open per night, and the site list shows which sites you can actually book for the dates you chose. Those are different questions and we try to keep them visibly separate.
There is a third state worth naming: dates nobody has loaded yet. If an operator has not opened next season, the calendar shows those nights as not loaded rather than as sold out. Those are not the same fact and it would be easy, and wrong, to render them identically.
- Per-night counts tell you how busy a campground is; only the site list tells you what you can book.
- "Not loaded yet" means come back, not that the campground is full.
